Cori Coco Gauff (USA) qualified for the semi-finals of the WTA Finals in Cancun (Mexico) after a heavy three-set victory versus Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic). The American tennis talent overturned her opponent by 2-1 (5:7, 7:6, 6:3) in a match that lasted 2:33 hours.
Marketa Vondrousova started the first set very strong and after two breaks took a lead of 3:0. Cori Coco Gauff returned the breaks and equalized to 3:3, but both players exchanged another breaks in the next games and kept the score equal. In the 11th game of the set, Marketa Vondrousova scored another break and this proved to be enough for her to close the set at 7:5.
Marketa Vondrousova again made an early break in the second set, but Cori Coco Gauff overturned the score to 4:1 after two breaks. However, there was another turnover by the Czech player, who took a lead by 6:5 and served for the match but Cori Coco Gauff returned the break and moved the set into a tiebreak, which she won by 7-4.
The American player made two break in the third set, which were enough for her to close it by 6:3 and win the match.
In the semi-finals, Cori Coco Gauff will face Jessica Pegula (USA).
