Coco Gauff defended her title at the WTA 250 ASB Classic in Auckland

The top-seeded Cori Coco Gauff (USA) defended her title at the WTA 250 ASB Classic in Auckland (New Zealand) with a prize money of 267,082 USD.

The American tennis player defeated the second-seeded Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) in the final with 2-1 (6:7, 6:3, 6:3) in 2:35 hours.

The 19-year-old Coco Gauff produced a controlled and dominating performance. Her deep ground shots allowed her to follow in to the net, where she dominated and used her powerful forehand with accuracy. Cori Coco Gauff lost the first set after a tiebreak, but dominated the next two, breaking a total of four and winning the seventh WTA title of her career. The American tennis player, who is the US Open champion, is on a 10-match winning streak and has lost just one set in 20 at the tournament in Auckland, where she triumphed again last year.

“It’s a good start to my 2024”, said Coco Gauff. “I’m just being aggressive with my serve and return. We played one set in practice over here before the tournament began and she was playing really well so I think I knew I had to be at my best to be able to win”, added she.

Cori Coco Gauff is the fourth player to win back-to-back titles in Auckland, joining Patty Fendick (1988, 1989), Eleni Daniilidou (2003, 2004) and Julia Gorges (2018, 2019).
