The famous tennis legend, Chris Evert, revealed that she was cured of cancer, a year after she began her battle with the disease.
Chris Evert began chemotherapy in January 2022 after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The tumor was discovered at an early stage after the former tennis player underwent a preventive hysterectomy following the death of her sister Jean from the same disease.
“A year ago I began a journey to protect myself and the people I love from the risks associated with ovarian cancer that took my sister Jean’s life. Thanks to the power of scientific progress, we caught my cancer early enough to do something about it. My doctor told me that if it hadn’t been detected, within four months it would probably have progressed to stage three, like Jean’s, and I would have had very few options. Instead, I immediately started chemotherapy and went through six courses. Today I’m cancer-free and there’s a 90 percent chance it will never come back”, said Chris Evert, 68, who completed her last round of chemotherapy in May and confirmed the positive news.
Chris Evert added that her story is not over and confirmed that on December 1 she underwent a double mastectomy to reduce her risk of developing breast cancer. She explained that she was recovering.
“I have one more operation to go before the full reconstruction. They say this part is easy, but I can assure you the last five years have not been. No matter how relieved I am, I will always have a heaviness in my heart. I will never heal from the loss of Jean and I will never take for granted what I got from her. My sister’s experience saved my life. I hope by sharing what I’m going through, I’ll save someone else’s life”, added Chris Evert.
