Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai met with the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach during the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
“During a dinner on Saturday, we had a long and pleasant conversation”, said the tennis player, who announced her retirement from tennis after the scandal that erupted around her last year.
In November, three-time Olympian Peng Shuai raised safety concerns when the tennis player accused Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Zhang Gaoli on social media of sexually assaulting her.
Peng Shuai has denied any allegations of sexual assault, adding that she deleted her post on social media in November, in which she appears to have made such a claim.
In an interview, given at a hotel in the Chinese capital, Peng Shuai said: “I never said that anyone had sexually assaulted me in any way. There was a big misunderstanding”.
Peng Shuai added that she will attend several competitions from the Beijing 2022 Olympics program and plans to travel to Europe after the end of the pandemic to visit the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne.
