Chinese swimmer Li Bingjie broke the women’s 400m freestyle WR in a 25m pool

Chinese swimmer Li Bingjie broke the world record in the women’s 400m freestyle in a 25m pool. She clocked 3:51.30 min at the China Swimming Championships, a qualifier for the world championships in December in Australia.

The previous world record was 3:53.92 min, set by two-time Olympic champion Ariarne Titmus at the 2018 PWC World Championships in China.

“I was surprised by the result. I’m back in the pool just two months after taking a break after the World Championships in Budapest. I hope to be even faster and give my best at the upcoming worlds in Melbourne”, said Li Bingjie, referring to the World Cup from December 13 to 18.

The 20-year-old Li Bingjie’s previous best at this distance was 3:55.83 min.

The Chinese swimmer is a gold medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay and a bronze medalist in the 400m freestyle. She is also the reigning world champion in the 400m and 800m freestyle in a 25-meter pool.
