The WTA 250 Thailand Open in Hua Hin will have a Chinese semi-final as Xinyu Wang and Lin Zhu won their quarter-finals matches and will face in the next round.
Xinyu Wang defeated Heather Watson (UK) by 2-1 (6:3, 6:7, 6:4) in 2:42 hours of play, while Lin Zhu eliminated Tamara Zidansek (Slovenia) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2) in 76 minutes.
Xinyu Wang had a heavy and long-lasted match versus her British opponent. She won the first set after two breaks but had serious problems in the second, which has a total of 8 breaks despite Heather Watson took a lead in the beginning, finally, the Chinese player turned the set into a tiebreak. The British player had more luck in the tiebreak and won the set, equalizing the score.
In the third set, Xinyu Wang improved her first serve accuracy and started winning her serving games. She succeeded to register a break in the seventh game and this was enough to close the set by 6:4.
The compatriot and opponent in the semi-final, Lin Zhu, had quite easier match. She took the first set after two breaks and without giving a breakpoint to her opponent. In the second set, Lin Zhu registered three breaks against only one for her opponent and thus closed the match in two sets.
In the other quarter-finals, the top-seeded Bianca Andreescu (Canada) faces Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) and Lesia Tsurenko (Ukraine) will play versus Tatjana Maria (Germany).
