Chelsea Women made a big step towards the England Women’s Super League title after defeating Arsenal WFC by 2-0 at Kingsmeadow stadium in front of 3,500 spectaculars.
Goals of Guro Reiten (22′) and Magdalena Eriksson (41′) in the first half gave the lead for the Blues, who kept the advantage by the end of the match. Arsenal WFC had their chances, but Katie McCabe missed a penalty, given for a handball by Sophie Ingle, in the 60th minute. Although the match to be resolved already in the first half, it was quite interesting with total of 16 shots on target (8 for each team) and 24 goal attempts.
The central forward Samantha Kerr and the goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger were the top players for Chelsea Women, while goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger shined for Arsenal WFC.
After the victory, and a single round before the end, Chelsea Women is just one point from winning the England Women’s Super League and in the last match will visit the last in the standings Reading Women.
In the Manchester derby, United WFC defeated City WFC by 2-1 (1-0) after a last minute goal of Lucia Garcia Cordoba. Earlier, Hayley Ladd scored for Manchester United WFC in the 2nd minute and Filippa Angeldal equalized for Manchester City WFC in the 68th minute. Manchester City WFC finished the match with 10 players after Ellie Roebuck got a red card in the 42nd minute.
Aston Villa WFC and Liverpool Women made a spectacular 3-3 (2-2) draw. Kirsty Hanson (7′ and 70′) and Rachel Daly (45′) scored for Aston Villa WFC, while Katherine Stengel (37′ and 62′) and Natasha Dowie (40′) scored for Liverpool Women.
Everton WFC defeated Brighton & Hove Albion WFC by 2-1 (1-1), while Leicester City WFC lost to West Ham United Women by 1-2 (0-1).
