CAS has not yet decided on the date of the hearings in the case against Kamila Valieva

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has not yet decided on the date on which the appeal hearings will be held against the decision of the Disciplinary Commission of the Russian Anti-Doping Commission (RUSADA) in the case of figure skater Kamila Valieva. The Russian is accused of violating anti-doping rules.

“We have not decided yet”, said a representative of CAS when asked if the date of the hearing on the appeals against the decision in the case against the Russian figure skater was known.

CAS registered the appeals of RUSADA, the International Skating Union (ISU), and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) against the decision of the Disciplinary Commission in the Kamila Valieva case from February 24.

Interestingly, however, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency made a U-turn in the case of Kamila Valieva and asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport to sanction the Russian and overturn the decision of its own Disciplinary Committee. This became a fact after CAS informed that RUSADA filed an appeal against the decision of its committee, which acquitted the figure skater.

On January 13, RUSADA acquitted Kamila Valieva. She was found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation through no fault or negligence on her part. No sanctions were taken against the Russian, except for the annulment of her results from the Russian championship, where she won a gold medal in late December 2021.

The 16-year-old Russian girl tested positive for the banned substance “trimetazidine”. It was detected in her sample from December 25, 2021, but the test result was not announced until February during the Beijing 2022 Olympics. By then, she had already won gold in the team event.

Kamila Valieva was allowed to participate in the individual tournament in Beijing 2022 Olympics, in which she took fourth place. The figure skater is the European champion since 2022 and holds world records for the highest scores in the short program, the free program, and the all-around.
