Caroline Garcia won the title of the WTA Finals Fort Worth

Caroline Garcia WTA finals

The French tennis player Caroline Garcia won the title of the WTA Finals Fort Worth with a prize pool of 5 million USD.

The 6th-seeded Caroline Garcia beat the seventh-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:4) and deserved the most prestigious title in her career. With success, she earned 1.57 million USD and 1,375 points for the world rankings. Thus, Caroline Garcia will finish the year as the world’s No 4, which equals her personal best ranking.

“I am very happy. It turned out to be a crazy final, with high intensity at every game. I am proud of what has been achieved and not only in this match but all year long. I gave my best and I am pleased that I deserved my biggest title”, said Caroline Garcia, who earned the fourth trophy for the season and a total of 11th in her career.

The French tennis player was extremely stable on the serve, making 11 aces and giving no break point to her opponent. She made a key series of five consecutive points to lead 6-2 on her way to success in the first set tiebreaker. At the beginning of the second set, she realized the decisive break with her first and only breakpoint, then kept her lead until the end.

“I am pleased with your attitude, it is very important to keep calm at any time. Negative emotions did not affect me, which helped me to take advantage of the chances in the tiebreaker and in the first game of the second set when I broke Aryna’s serve. Sometimes you are emotional and things don’t go the way you want. When the match is a battle, you have to find the right approach. There are points where you can’t do anything. You just don’t have to think about it but try to get more balls in the field to the opponent. This is one of the things I developed in. Today, the most important thing was to stay calm and take advantage of every chance I did”, added also Caroline Garcia.

Aryna Sabalenka admitted that at the end of the first set and at the beginning of the second, she had made a slight decline, which turned out to be decisive.

“My level just fell a little into the tiebreaker and in the first game of the second set. That is. Otherwise, I did my best, but she just played incredible tennis”, said Aryna Sabalenka after the match.
