Caroline Garcia has withdrawn from the doubles competition at the US Open tennis championship. French tennis player, who is world’s No 7, revealed that she lost her grandmother.
“The last two days have been very difficult for my family as my grandmother passed away on Monday afternoon. I could not attend the press conference after my loss in the first round of singles because the emotions were too great. My heart needs to be with my loved ones , to say a final goodbye to my grandmother and that’s why I have to retire from doubles with Christina. There is time for everyone in life, and today tennis comes second. Thank you for understanding”, wrote Caroline Garcia in the social networks.
Caroline Garcia lost in the first round of the US Open to the Chinese player Yafan Wang, but having quite unsuccessful summer, after losing in the first round also at the WTA 500 Mubadala Citi DC Open, WTA 1000 Canadian Open and WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open. Last week she reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Tennis in the Land in Cleveland.
