Caroline Garcia and Iga Swiatek advanced to the semis of the WTA Finals Fort Worth

Caroline Garcia

Caroline Garcia (France) and Poland’s Iga Swiatek (Poland) continue to the semi-finals of the WTA Finals Fort Worth. Caroline Garcia will face Maria Sakkari (Greece), while Iga Swiatek will face Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus).

Caroline Garcia defeated the Russian Daria Kasatkina by 2-1 (4:6, 6:1, 7:6) in a match that lasted two hours and 30 minutes. The French tennis player made 42 winners to book her place in the semi-finals, finishing second in Group A with two wins and three losses.

“In every game I try to give my best and I have no regrets. At this tournament, that happens even more than usual. I really gave everything I was capable of”, said Caroline Garcia after the match.

She showed her nerves after being broken for 5:4 in the ninth game of the first set, but managed to rally in the next two games and reach a turnaround. This is her first appearance at the WTA Finals since 2017.

World number one Iga Swiatek was much more convincing in her victory over Cori Coco Gauff by 2-0 (6:3, 6:0) in 1:10 hours of play. The Polish tennis player recorded her third success out of her three matches in Group A without losing a set.

The champion of the US and French Opens achieved her fifth victory in matches with Cori Coco Gauff. She made 15 unforced errors in the first set, but only two in the second, when she won 26 of 36 points.
