Canadian curler Jennifer Jones and her team are back on the road to victory after beating the Russian Olympic Committee by 11:5 in the women’s Olympic curling tournament at the Beijing 2022 Games. The Canadians have already suffered three consecutive losses and with their second victory in the race occupy sixth place in the standings.

“We had to win this game at 1 million percent. It’s a huge victory for us”, said the skipper Jennifer Jones.

Japan, the winner of the bronze medals from PyeongChang 2018, defeated the hosts from China with 10:2 and holds second place in the standings with four wins and one loss. The Japanese controlled the match from the very beginning, took the lead with 7:1, and ended the battle convincingly with the Chinese, who are eighth at the moment.

The US team stole three points in the sixth end and fought for a victory over the silver medalist from the Republic of Korea four years ago with 8:6. Thus, the Americans climbed to third place with four victories from their six meetings so far, and the Koreans suffered a third defeat in five games and are now sixth in the standings.

The world champion in women’s curling Switzerland remains the leader, unbeaten in five games so far, and the position in the top 4 besides Japan and the United States is occupied by Great Britain with equal assets with the Olympic champion Sweden – 3 wins and 2 losses.

The teams play nine games each against each other, and the first four qualify for the semifinals.
