Camila Osorio defeated the third-seeded Alize Cornet at the start of the WTA 250 Lyon Open

Colombian tennis player Camila Osorio defeated the third-seeded Alize Cornet (France) at the start of the WTA 250 Open 6e Sens Metropole de Lyon. The Colombian won the match by 2-1 (6:4, 4:6, 6:1) in 2:23 hours.

Camila Osorio started the match with an early break in the first set and kept her comfortable lead by 6th game when Alize Cornet equalized the score. However, the Colombian tennis player had her next chance in the 9th game, when she got 3 break points and lost all of them, but at deuce reached to another breakpoint and this time succeeded to win the game. After taking a lead of 5:4, Camila Osorio served for the set and closed it from the second set point by 6:4.

In the second set, Alize Cornet started strongly in an attempt to return to the match. She won three consecutive games and kept her lead to the 7th game. However, her opponent returned the break and equalized the score. Alize Cornet received her second chance in the 10th game at the serve of Camila Osorio. She reached two break/setpoints, but lost all of them. The game was the longest in the match so far and she reached two more break/setpoints and closed the set at the third.

The third set was under the total dominance of Camila Osorio. She gave only one game to her opponent and closed the set at 6:1.

In the next round, Camila Osorio will face Jule Niemeier (Germany), who defeated Olga Danilovic (Serbia) by 2-1 (7:5, 2:6, 6:3).

The former world’s number one Garbine Muguruza (Spain), who plays with a wildcard, also lost at the start of the WTA 250 Open 6e Sens Metropole de Lyon. She lost to Linda Noskova (Czech Republic) by 0-2 (1:6, 4:6). In the next round, the Czech player will face Mayar Sherif (Egypt), who won the match versus Ana Konjuh (Croatia) after retiring of the Croatian player in the second set.

In another match from the tournament Petra Martic (Croatia) defeated Kristina Mladenovic (France) by 2-1 (3:6, 6:3, 7:5), while Anastasia Potapova (Russia) lost to Marina Bassols (Spain) by 1-2 (6:4, 1:6, 2:6).

Maryna Zanevska (Belgium) also qualified for the second round after defeating Dalma Galfi (Hungary) by 2-0 (6:1, 7:6).
