Camila Giorgi won the titles at the WTA 250 Merida Open Akron in Mexico with a prize pool of 259,303 USD. The Italian tennis player defeated the Swedish qualifier Rebecca Peterson with 2-1 (7:6, 1:6, 6:2) in the final match that lasted 2:25 hours.

It is the fourth career title for Camila Giorgi and her first since 2021 when she won in Montreal.

The first set started equally without breaks, as both players were careful with their serve and avoided risks. In the seventh game of the set, Rebecca Peterson broke her opponent and took an important lead. She won her next service game and has a real chance to close the set. However, Camila Giorgi returned with a service game on zero and then broke her opponent to equalize the score again to 5:5. The Italian had a chance to close the set at the serve of Rebecca Peterson but missed and this went into a tiebreak, which she won by 7-3.

The second set started equally, with both players winning their first serving games. After that the Swedish player broke the service of Camila Giorgi and the set went under her total dominance. Rebecca Peterson won 5 games in a row to win the set by 6:1.

The third set started perfectly for the Swedish player, who broke her Italian opponent already in the first game. She confirmed the break after winning her own serve. However, Camila Giorgi returned to the match and took the next 6 games in a row, closing the set at 6:2.

Thus, Camila Giorgi won the match and the titles, which is her fourth WTA trophy.
