The Italian tennis player Camila Giorgi started strongly her participation at the WTA 1000 Canadian Open after defeating Bianca Vanessa Andreescu (Canada) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:2) in the first round.
The match started equally with both players winning their serve games. The first breakpoints came to Bianca Vanessa Andreescu in the fifth game of the set, but she missed them and her opponent took a lead by 3:2. In the next game, Camila Giorgi received chance for break her opponent and although missing the first breakpoint, she succeeded to realize the second and made the result 4:2. After winning, even hardly, her next serve game, the Italian extended the lead to 5:2. This proved to be enough for Camila Giorgi to close the first set at 6:3.
The Italian tennis player used the impetus from the first set and started perfectly the second with two early breaks, giving her a lead of 4:0. Thus, Camila Giorgi succeeded to close the second set at 6:2 and won the match.
In the second round, Camila Giorgi will face the 7th-seeded Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic).
In the other match earlier today, Leylah Fernandez (Canada) eliminated Peyton Stearns (USA) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:2) and in the next round will face the 11th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil), who eliminated Magdalena Frech (Poland) after 2-0 (6:4, 6:2).
Qinwen Zheng (China) also qualified for the second round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open after defeating Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) by 2-1 (6:2, 1:6, 6:3), while Anna Blinkova (Russia) eliminated Shuai Zhang (China) by 2-1 (4:6, 6:2, 6:3).
Petra Martic (Croatia) also started successfully her participation at the tournament, eliminating Cristina Bucsa (Spain) by 2-0 (6:0, 6:4), while Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic) defeated Mayar Sherif (Egypt) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:2).
