Camila Giorgi qualified for the second round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open

Camila Giorgi (Italy) qualified for the second round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open after defeating Arantxa Rus (Netherlands) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) in 1:37 hours of play.

The Italian tennis player started the match with confidence. She made a break in the fourth game of the first set, but Arantxa Rus returned it immediately. However, Camila Giorgi succeeded to take a new lead at the very end of the set and served for the match. The last game was dramatic with 2 set points missed and 3 break points saved by her, but eventually succeeded to take the game, closing the set at 6:3.

Camila Giorgi needed to make a turnover in the second set, as the Dutch tennis player took a lead of 3:1 with a break in her favor. However, the Italian succeeded to take the next 5 games and closed the set again at 6:3.

In the second round, Camila Giorgi will face the 3rd-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA).

Shelby Rogers (USA) also advanced to the second round after defeating her compatriot Katie Volynets by 2-1 (6:4, 4:6, 6:1). In the next round, she will face the 7th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece).

The 20-year-old Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, who last week won her first WTA title in Austin, lost in the start of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open to Rebecca Peterson (Sweden) by 2-1 (7:5, 5:7, 7:5).

Lesia Tsurenko (ukraine) defeated Lin Zhu (China) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3), while Anna Kalinskaya (Russia) advanced to the second round after a victory versus Alycia Parks (USA) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:1).

Alison Riske-Amritraj (USA) leaves the tennis tournament already in the first round after losing to her compatriot Elizabeth Mandlik by 1-2 (3:6, 7:5, 6:7).

Chinese player Xiyu Wang qualified for the second round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open after defeating Olga Danilovic (Serbia) by 2-1 (4:6, 6:2, 6:3).

Jil Teichmann (Switzerland) did not gave many chances to her opponent Ashlyn Krueger (USA) and won the match by 2-0 (6:1, 6:4).
