Camila Giorgi qualified for the final of the WTA 250 Merida Open Akron

Italian tennis player Camila Giorgi qualified for the final of the WTA 250 Merida Open Akron tennis tournament in Mexico with a prize pool of 259,303 USD. Camila Giorgi defeated 4th-seeded Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) by 2-0 (7:5, 7:6) in 2:11 hours to reach her 10th final and first since 2021, when she won the title in Montreal.

The Italian player recorded 25 winners and 23 unforced errors. She broke in the 12th game on her way to a first-set victory. In the second set, Camila Giorgi squandered a 5:2 lead, but in the tiebreak she led 5-1 and closed the match 7-2.

In the final, Camila Giorgi will face Swedish qualifier Rebecca Peterson, who eliminated Caty McNally (USA)by 2-1 (6:2, 6:7, 6:4) in 2:47 hours after making a comeback from 0:4 to 6:4 in the third set.

The Swedish player reached No 43 in the WTA rankings in 2019 when she won two titles. But last season she was dogged by injuries and is currently ranked 140th in the world.

Camila Giorgi has two wins in two meetings against Peterson so far and will be looking for a fourth career title.
