Italian tennis player Camila Giorgi qualified for the second round of the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open Akron after defeating Mayar Sherif (Egypt) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:3) in 1:51 hours of play.
The match started equally with both exchanging a break in the very beginning. On the next two serve games of Camila Giorgi, her opponent received a total of four breakpoint, but missed all of them. On the other hand, the Italian player also missed three breakpoints at the serve of Mayar Sherif. Thus, the match was running equal without any of the players to be able to take a lead. In the 12th game of the set, Camila Giorgi received another breakpoint, which she succeeded to realize and thus won the very disputed set by 7:5.

In the other matches from the first round of the tournament, Magdalena Frech (Poland) eliminated Camila Osorio (Colombia0 after 2-0 (6:1, 6:2), while Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) eliminated Stacey Fung (Canada) after 2-1 (6:3, 2:6, 6:0) and Emma Navarro (USA) won the match versus Maria Mateas (USA) by 2-0 (6:0, 6:4).
The Colombian tennis player Emiliana Arango brought the big surprise of the day, eliminating the 11th-seeded Anastasia Potapova (Russia) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3). The American players Sachia Vickery and Sofia Kenin also advanced to the second round after eliminating Carol Zhao (Canada) and Danielle Collins (USA), who retired in the second set of the match due to injury.
