The 16-year-old Czech tennis talent Brenda Fruhvirtova returned to victory after more than two months by defeating Maria Lourdes Carle (Argentina) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) in the first round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open.
In the first set, Brenda Fruhvirtova was leading 4:2 with a break in her favor, before Maria Lourdes Carle returned the break. However, the Czech tennis player broke again and closed the set at 6:3. Despite the result, the second set was more close. In the first three games, neither Brenda Fruhvirtova nor her opponent held their serve. The Czech wild card player lost the break lead in the sixth game, but in the next game she broke Maria Lourdes Carle again. On the Argentinian player’s serve, Brenda Fruhvirtova won the match on the third match point and advanced to the second round, where she will face the 24th-seeded Katie Boulter (Great Britain).
Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) also qualified for the second round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open. The Kazakhstani tennis player defeated Cristina Bucsa (Spain) by 2-1 (6:2, 3:6, 6:4) in 2:19 hours of play and in the next round will face the 13th-seeded Liudmila Samsonova (Russia).
Lesia Tsurenko (Ukraine) eliminated Magda Linette (Poland) after 2-1 (2:6, 6:1, 6:4), while Diane Parry (France) defeated Jaqueline Cristian (Romania) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:2) and Xiyu Wang (China) won her opening match in the tournament versus Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (Slovenia) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:3)
