Polyana Viana is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist who currently competes in the Strawweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). She is a Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has a personal MMA record of 13-5-0 (W-L-D). She is a former Jungle Fight Strawweight champion.
Polyana Viana Mota was born on June 14, 1992, in Sao Geraldo do Araguaia, Para, Brazil. She started training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu in 2013 and also made her professional mixed martial arts debut in late 2013.
Polyana Viana made her professional MMA debut on December 14, 2013, versus Silvana Pinto at the Demolidor Extreme Combat 3. She won the fight via TKO in the first round.
During the next year, she made four fights, finishing three of them via TKOs and submission. In February, Polyana Viana won via armbar submission in the second round versus Mirelle Oliveira do Nascimento at the Piaui Fight MMA – Gladiators 2. In April, she defeated Thais Santana at the Araguatins Fight Night MMA via TKO in the first round and in June won her fight versus Debora Silva at the Talento Uruara Fight via TKO in round 1.
Polyana Viana registered her first professional MMA loss on December 13, 2014, versus Aline Sattelmayer at the Real Fight 12 event. She lost via unanimous decision.
On July 18, 2015, she returned to the Octagon and defeated Giselle Campos at the Maraba Combat 1.0 via armbar submission in the first round.
Later in 2015, Polyana Viana signed a contract with Jungle Fight. She made her debut on September 12, 2015, at the Jungle Fight 81 versus Karol Pereira Silva Cerqueira and won via rear-naked choke submission in the first round.. Thus, she became the main contender for the Jungle Fight Strawweight title.
On November 28, 2015, Polyana Viana defeated Amanda Ribas at the Jungle Fight 83 via KO in the first round and thus became the Jungle Fight Strawweight champion. In May 21, 2016, she had a successful defense of the title versus Debora Dias Nascimento at the Jungle Fight 87, winning the bout via armbar submission in the first round.
On October 7, 2017, Polyana Viana registered another victory versus Pamela Rosa at the Watch Out Combat Show 47. She finished her opponent via armbar submission already in the first round.
Following her attractive victories and great Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills she was invited to sign a contract with the UFC. Polyana Viana made her UFC debut on February 3, 2018, versus Maia Kahaunaele at the UFC Fight Night 125. The Brazilian fighter finished her opponent via rear-naked choke submission in the first round. Thus, recorded her 10th victory in the professional MMA.
On August 4, 2018, Polyana Viana faced J.J. Aldrich at UFC 227. However, the Brazilian fighter lost via unanimous decision. Since then she registered two more losses at the UFC – to Hannah Cifers at the UFC 235 via split decision and to Veronica Hardy at the UFC Fight Night 156 via armbar submission.
On August 9, 2020, Polyana Viana returned to the wins after finishing Emily Whitmire at the UFC Fight Night 175 via armbar submission in the first round. On February 13, 2021, she recorded her 12th MMA victory after finishing Mallory Martin at the UFC 258 via armbar submissions in the first round.
On May 21, 2022, she lost to Tabatha Ricci at the UFC Fight Night 206 via unanimous decision.
On November 5, 2022, Polyana Viana finished Jinh Yu Frey at the UFC Fight Night 214 via KO in the first round.
Thus, Brazilian MMA fighter Polyana Viana proved to be one of the most attractive fighters in the UFC. She finished 12 of her wins and 11 of them in the first round. Definitely one of the top and most unpredictable Strawweight UFC fighters.
