Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade won gold in the women’s vault

Olympic all-around artistic gymnast runner-up Rebeca Andrade of Brazil won the vault final in the women’s gymnastics tournament at the Tokyo Games. The 22-year-old gymnast is the first Brazilian to win an Olympic gold medal in history.

Rebeca Andrade received a score of 15.083 points for his two jumps. The silver medal went to the American MyKayla Skinner with 14.916 points, and the third place went to the representative of the Republic of Korea Yeo Seojeong (Republic of Korea) with 14.733 points.

Defending champion Simone Biles (USA) is in Tokyo but refused to participate in the final due to mental health problems.

In 2019, Rebeca Andrade needed her third surgery in four years to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee and missed the world championships because of it. Without her, her Brazilian team did not qualify for Tokyo. And she only qualified for these Games just in June, as an individual.

1. Rebeca Andrade (Brazil) – 15.083 points
2. MyKayla Skinner (USA) – 14.916 points
