The Brazil women’s volleyball team, who is Tokyo 2020 Olympics runner-up, has secured a place at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Selecao managed to defeat the hosts from Japan with 3-2 (25:21, 22:25, 27:25, 15:25, 15:10) in front of 10,213 spectators in Tokyo in a head-to-head clash to determine the second team from the Group B, who will win an Olympic quota.
The Brazil women’s volleyball team led with 1-0 and 2-1, but the Japanese women managed to equalize to 2-2. In the decisive tiebreak, the tie remained at 10:10. A great forehand run by Priscila Daroit forced the Japanese women into mistakes and Brazil won the tiebreaker 15:10.
Thus, Brazil is the second team from Group B to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics, after the European champion Turkey, which recorded 7 consecutive victories at the tournament in Tokyo.
Gabriela Guimaraes scored 23 points (1 ace). Julia Bergmann added 15 points (1 block).
Thaísa Menezes (4 blocks) and Rosamaria Montibeller (1 ace, 2 blocks) each added 13 points for Brazil’s success.
Kotona Hayashi (1 ace) and Sarina Koga (1 ace, 3 blocks) each scored 18 points for Japan. Mayu Ishikawa added 16 points (2 blocks).
