Olympic women’s volleyball runner-up Brazil qualified for the final of the 2022 World Cup in the Netherlands and Poland. Ze Roberto-led team gave only a game and prevailed over European champions Italy by 3-1 (25:23, 22:25, 26:24, 25:19) in the second semi-final of the 2022 World Cup.
Thus, Brazil” will play in the final of the Women’s Volleyball World Championships for the first time since 2010. This will be Brazil’s fifth World Cup final and they target a historic first title.
In the final, the Brazilian players will face the current world champion, Serbia, who will defend their title. The Serbian team defeated the Olympic champion the USA also with a 3-1 game in the first semi-final yesterday. The final for the world title is on Saturday (October 15) in Apeldoorn.
Italy, on the other hand, takes a step back from the silver medals of the 2018 World Cup, playing for the bronze medals against the USA. The battle for bronze will also be on Saturday in Apeldoorn.
Most valuable for Brazil was the captain Gabriela Guimaraes with 20 points (3 blocks, 37% attack success and 63% perfect reception) for the win. Ana Carolina da Silva (10 blocks! and 64% shooting percentage) and Lorenne Geraldo Teixeira (2 blocks and 39% shooting percentage) added 17 and 14 points for the win.
Paola Egonu scored the amazin 30 points (2 blocks and 44% attack success rate) for Italy. Miriam Sylla finished with 17 points (50% attack success rate and 36% perfect reception), but that didn’t help to win either.
