World Boxing Championships will not be qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics

The World Championships for men and women under the auspices of the International Boxing Association (IBA) will not be qualifying competitions for the Paris 2024 Olympics, announced the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Earlier today, the IBA announced that the 2023 World Championships will be the main qualifying competition for the upcoming Olympics.

“As announced by the IOC in June 2022, the IBA will not participate in the qualification and Olympic boxing tournament for Paris 2024”, says the statement of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). “The only current qualification is the system approved by the IOC Executive Board in September 2022, published and distributed to National Olympic Committees and National Boxing Federations on December 6, 2022”, adds the statement.

The IOC is demanding reforms from the International Boxing Federation, but a number of demands still remain unfulfilled.

Last year, the International Olympic Committee said it was very likely that boxing would be removed from the program of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics because the International Boxing Association (IBA) was not making the required changes.

This forced boxers from British, US and Irish boxing federations to boycott women’s world championships in New Delhi.
