Canadian tennis star Bianca Andreescu defeated Emma Raducanu (UK) by 2-1 (6:3, 3:6, 6:2) in one of the most anticipated matches of the first round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open.
The clash between the two former US Open champions did not disappoint, with Bianca Andreescu forging her advantage largely thanks to her excellent serve. The Canadian player finished the match with 7 aces and also saved 11 of 12 breakpoints of Emma Raducanu.
The British tennis talent, currently WTA No 72, had three breakpoints in the first game of the third set, as well as another breakpoint at 4:2 in favor of Bianca Andreescu, but these were just some of her many misses, which deprived her of something more in the match.
In the second round, Bianca Andreescu will face the 7th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece).
Former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova continues to advance in the tournament. The Czech woman had no difficulties against Tatjana Maria (Germany) and won by 2-0 (6:4, 6:1) in 67 minutes. In the next round, she will play versus the 11th-seeded Veronika Kudermetova (Russia).
Fast victories were also achieved by two more of the Czech representatives in the tournament. Karolina Muchova won 11 of the first 12 games in her match with Jil Teichmann (Switzerland) to close ti by 2-0 (6:0, 6:2) in exactly 59 minutes on the court. In doing so, she secured a match with Zhu Lin (China) in the second round. The teenager Linda Noskova overcame the Lucia Bronzetti (Italy) after 2-0 (6:3, 6:4). For a place in the third round, 18-year-old Linda Noskova will face her compatriot and two-time Grand Slam winner Petra Kvitova.
Erika Andreeva (Russia) advanced to the second round after a victory versus Ashlyn Krueger (USA) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:2), while Viktorija Golubic (Switzerland) qualified after winning her match versus Hailey Baptiste (USA) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:1).
In the other matches from the first round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open, Aliaksandra Sasnovich (Belarus) defeated Dalma Galfi (Hungary) by 2-0 (6:3, 7:6), while Varvara Gracheva (Russia) eliminated Maryna Zanevska (Belgium) by 2-0 (6:1, 7:5) and Robin Montgomery (USA) won her catch versus Ana Bogdan (Romania) by 2-1 (3:6, 6:3, 6:3).
The big surprise of the first round is the loss of Bernarda Pera (USA) to Evgeniya Rodina (Russia) by 0-2 (3:6, 4:6) and the retirement of Amanda Anisimova (USA) in the second set of the match versus Madison Brengle (USA).
