Beth Potter won the triathlon test event for the Paris 2024 Olympics

British athlete Beth Potter overtook Cassandre Beaugrand (France) with a sprint finish to win the women’s triathlon test event for the Paris 2024 Games.

The French athlete broke away at the start of the four-lap run, but Beth Potter caught up at the start of the second lap. The two were side by side, opening up a gap with Emma Lombardi and Laura Lindemann, but Beth Potter managed to win in 1:51:40 min, six seconds ahead of her French rival. Germany’s Laura Lindemann finished third.

“I really don’t know what to say. I just really enjoyed the fight with Cassandre. It was my main goal for the season and I achieved it. I’m super happy”, said the 31-years-ld British athlete.

Beth Potter is currently second in the world triathlon rankings behind Cassandre Beaugrand, who secured a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The swim took place in the Seine after the river passed a water quality test. Earlier this month, organizers canceled the Open Water Swimming World Cup in Paris after heavy rains worsened water quality in the Seine River below minimum health standards.

The triathlon world series concludes with the championship finals in Pontevedra, Spain, next month.
