Arsenal WFC defeated West Ham United Women by classical 3-0 and defended their second position after Round 8 of the England Women’s Super League. The Gunner Ladies remain on the winning path after the terrible start, when lost to Liverpool Women and recorded a draw with Manchester United WFC.
Norwegian midfielder Frida Leonhardsen-Maanum gave a lead for Arsenal WFC in the 2nd minute, while the super-star Bethany Mead, who recently returned from injury, scored two more goals in the 18th and 41st minutes to secure the win for her team.
Arsenal WFC was the better team on the ground, but West Ham United Women also had their chances missed by Emma Harries and Viviane Asseyi. Kyra Cooney-Cross from Arsenal WFC was awarded the player of the match after assisting for the first two goals and preventing attacks in her area.
Meanwhile, Liverpool Women recorded their 4th win in the England Women’s Super League after smashing Brighton & Hove Albion WFC by 4-0. Gemma Bonner (27′), Shanice van de Sanden (43′), Ceri Holland (63′), and Sophie Roman Haug (90+2′) scored for Liverpool Women.
In another match from the round, Aston Villa WFC lost at home to Everton Women by 1-2. Own goal of Anna Patten gave a lead for the visitors in the 54th minute, but an accurate shot of Rachel Daly one minute later equalized the score to 1-1. In the 74th minute, Everton Women were awarded with a penalty and Nathalie Bjorn scored to bring the victory to her team.
Chelsea Women is the leader in the standings without a loss with 22 points, followed by Arsenal Women and Manchester City WFC with 19 points and 16 points, respectively.
