Bernarda Pera lost to Diana Shnaider at the start of the WTA 250 Hungarian Grand Prix

the reigning champion at the WTA 250 Hungarian Grand Prix, Bernarda Pera, was eliminated in the first round of the tournament with a price pool of 259,303 USD. The top-seeded American player lost to the 19-year-old Diana Shnaider (Russia) by 0-2 (4:6, 5:7) in two hours of play.

Diana Shnaider made six breaks on her way to win the match. In the second set at 5:5, she took her serve and then broke Bernarda Pera’s serve game to close out the match.

In the next round, the Russian tennis player, who is the world’s No 110, will play with her compatriot Maria Timofeeva, who eliminated Daria Saville (Australia) by 2-1 (2:6, 6:3, 6:4).

In other matches of the tournament, Anna Siskova (Czech Republic) eliminated Evgeniya Rodina (Russia) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:0) and in the next round will face Nadia Podoroska (Argentina), who defeated Storm Hunter (Australia) by 2-1 (1:6, 6:1, 6:1)

Tamara Korpatsch (Germany) defeated Valentini Grammatikopoulou (Greece) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4), while Fanny Stollar (Hungary) eliminated Irene Burillo Escorihuela (Spain) after 2-0 (7:5, 6:4) and Anna Bondar (Hungary) advanced to the second round after winning her match versus her compatriot Timea Babos by 2-1 (7:5, 5:7, 6:3).

Yulia Putintseva (*Kazakhstan) also started successfully her participation at the WTA 250 Hungarian Grand Prix after defeating Kateryna Volodko (Ukraine) by 2-1 (1:6, 6:2, 6:1).
