The 15th-seed and Tokyo 2020 Olympics champion Belinda Bencic (Switzerland) defeated Kamilla Rakhimova (Russia) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:4), while Lauren Davis (USA) smashed Danka Kovinic (Montenegro) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2) and Yuriko Lily Miyazaki (UK) won her opening match versus Margarita Betova (Russia) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3).

Sara Sorribes Tormo (Spain) continue with her strong performance after winning the title at the WTA 250 Tennis in the Land in Cleveland and at the start of the US Open eliminated the 28th-seeded Anhelina Kalinina (Ukraine) by 2-0 (6:4, 7:5).

Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil) also advanced to the second round after defeating Sloane Stephens (USA) by 2-1 (6:2, 5:7, 6:4).
