Belinda Bencic qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open

Tokyo 2020 Olympics tennis champion Belinda Bencic qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open. The Swiss tennis player defeated Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) by 2-0 (6:4, 7:5) in 1:36 hours.

Belinda Bencic won 66% of the first serve points and 86% of the second serve. She achieved one break in the first set and lose it by 6:4 on her first set point.

The second set started with Belinda Bencic, who took a lead of 2:0. However, her Ukrainian opponent returned the break and equalized the score to 2:2. Both played exchanged breaks in the 8th and 9th game of the set, but the nerves of the Swiss player were stronger and she took a late advantage of another break in the 11th game and succeeded to win the match in her own serve.

In the next round, Belinda Bencic will face Shelby Rogers (USA), who defeated the seventh-seeded Anett Kontaveit after a walkover of the Estonian in the third set due to injury.

The 4th-seeded Russian tennis player Veronika Kudermetova also reached the quarter-finals after eliminating Elise Mertens (Belgium) by 2-0 (6:1, 7:5).

Chinese player Qinwen Zheng eliminated the fifth-seeded Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:1).
