Belgian athlete Zita Goossens

Zita Goossens is a Belgian high jump and combined events athlete, who is a two-time national champion. She is one of the biggest talents in Belgian athletics.

Zita Goossens was born on June 28, 2000. She started in athletics as a child and showed great skills and results in the school’s championships.

Zita Goossens started her competitive career already in 2014, taking part at the Gent Belgian U16 Indoor Championships, where finished 6th in the high jump event. In the next season, she won her first junior national honor, earning the silver at the Lier Belgian U16 Championships in the high jump.

In 2016, Zita Goossens started competing simultaneously in the high jump and combined events. She earned the pentathlon bronze at the Gent Belgian Indoor U18 Combined Events Championships and the high jump gold at the Herentals Belgian U18 Championships. Meanwhile, in the high jump event, she won the gold at the Bruxelles U18 Memorial Van Damme and Namur High Jump U18 Meeting, as well as the bronze at the Nivelles Belgian Club Championships

In 2017, Zita Goossens made a wonderful performance at the Mouscron Belgian U18 Championships, winning the gold in the high jump and the 400m hurdles. She debuted also at the national championships, finishing 5th in the high jump at the Bruxelles Belgian Championships and 7th at the Gent Belgian Indoor Championships. Meanwhile, in the high jump event, she earned the silver at the Merksem Antwerp Athletics Gala, as well as the bronze at the Oordegem IFAM Meeting and the Lokeren Belgian Club Championships.

Zita Goossens earned her first senior national honor in 2018, winning the high jump bronze at the Gent Belgian Indoor Championships. In the same event, she finished 9th at the Heusden-Zolder KBC Night of Athletics and competed at the Bruxelles Memorial van Damme. At junior championships, Zita Goossens was again among the top athletes winning the high jump gold and 100m hurdles bronze at the Mouscron Belgian U20 Championships, as well as high jump silver and 60m hurdles bronze at the Gent Belgian U23/U20 Indoor Championships.

In 2019, Zita Goossens earned the high jump silver medals at the Bruxelles Belgian Championships and the Gent Belgian Indoor Championships. In the high jump event, she won the gold at the Lebbeke Belgian U23/U20 Championships and set a personal best of 184cm, but also earned the silver at the Oordegem IFAM Meeting and the gold at the Heusden-Zolder Regional Championships and the Oordegem Belgian University Championships. During the season, she debuted at a major international forum, competing at the Boras European U20 Championships, finishing 11th in the final.

In 2020, Zita Goossens again won the high jump silver at the Bruxelles Belgian Championships, as well as the gold at the Gent Belgian Indoor University Championships, Louvain-La-Neuve Belgian U23 Indoor Championships, and Micromeeting nummerke 1. She competed also in 60m hurdles at the Gent Belgian Indoor Championships and 100m hurdles at the Bruxelles Belgian Championships but failed to earn honors.

Zita Goossens focused on the high jump in 2021 and won her first national title in the event. She triumphed with the gold at the Bruxelles Belgian Championships, covering 190cm and improving her personal best. Zita Goossens competed at the Tallinn European Athletics U23 Championships and finished 5th, as well as at the Cluj-Napoca European Athletics Team Championships First League, finishing 6th. Meanwhile, during the season she earned the gold at the Lebbeke Allianz KvV Alle Categorieen, Oordegem IFAM Meeting, Flanders Cup VITA, and Flanders Cup OEH.

In 2022, Zita Goossens won her second high jump national title at the Gentbrugge Belgian Championships. Meanwhile, during the season, she earned the bronze at the Karlstad GP and IFAM Oordegem, as well as the gold at the Louvain-La-Neuve Belgian U23 Indoor Championships and Saint-Mard Intercercles Division Nationale Femmes.

In 2023, Zita Goossens again returned to compete in combined events, winning the heptathlon gold at the Open PK meerkampen Oost-Vl. Meanwhile, in the high jump she earned the gold at the 36th Meeting Citta’ Di Padova, Jessheim Norgeslekene, Flanders Cup Vita, and Essen Tag der Uberflieger, the silver at the Tampere Motonet GP meeting and Atletica Geneve – EAP, as well as th bronze at the Kortrijk Guldensporenmeeting, and IFAM Oordegem. At the Brugge Belgian Championships, Zita Goossens won the silver in the high jump and competed also in 100m hurdles, but failed to finish in the final.

Zita Goossens earned the pentathlon bronze at the Belgian Indoor Combined Events Championships in 2024. At the Louvain-La-Neuve Belgian Indoor Championships, she failed to record a successful attempt in the final but earned the silver at the International High Jump Gala Elmos in Heist-op-den-Berg.
