Belarusian world freestyle ski champion Aliaksandra Ramanouskaya was arrested in Minsk

World freestyle ski champion from 2019 Aliaksandra Ramanouskaya was arrested by the police in Minsk.

She was arrested late Wednesday, shortly after the end of her training. The Belarusian Foundation for Sport and Solidarity, which protects athletes who are persecuted for their political positions, announced the news to the international media. The reason for her arrest is not mentioned. According to the media in the country, these are administrative violations.

The 25-year-old Aliaksandra Ramanouskaya participated in the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in 2018, and the following year she was a world champion in 2019 Utah (USA).

She is part of more than 2,000 athletes and coaches who signed a letter about the election fraud in 2020, with which Alexander Lukashenko became president again.

Many Belarusian athletes have been arrested after taking part in protests or expressing support for the opposition, such as basketball player Yelena Leuchanka, who spent 15 days in prison in 2020.
