Last year’s semi-finalist Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil) was knocked out at the start of this year’s French Open after losing by 1-2 (6:3, 4:6, 1:6) to world number 51 Elisabetta Cocciaretto (Italy) in first round match.
The match was full of errors and the two tennis players exchanged one set each after eight breaks, with only Beatriz Haddad Maia giving 12 breakpoints to her opponent. The situation did not change in the last set, where Elisabetta Cocciaretto made two breaks in the opening four games and scored his first match point for the final 6:1.
Elisabetta Cocciaretto recorded twice as many winning shots against her opponent – 42 to 21. She also converted 6/12 break opportunities, while Beatriz Haddad Maia finished with 4/13.
In the next round, the Italian tennis player will face Cristina Bucsa (Spain), who eliminated the qualifier Yulia Starodubtsewa by 2-0 (6:4, 6:1).
