Beatriz Haddad Maia: I exceeded my goal at Roland Garros

Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia was in good mood despite losing by 0-2 (2:6, 6:7) to Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals of the French Open.

The 27-year-old tennis player, who has never passed the second round of a Grand Slam, became the first Brazilian in 55 years to reach a Grand Slam’s semi-final after beating world number seven Ons Jabur in the quarter-finals.

“My first goal was to reach the third round and I exceeded it”, said Beatriz Haddad Maia “We worked very hard and me and my team should be very proud of ourselves because it’s not easy to play a Grand Slam semi-final. I was a bit more emotional at the start of the match. Playing a semi-final for the first time against the world No 1, with a lot of Brazilians in the stands, I couldn’t be very disciplined and concentrated in the things I had to do on the court, but I gave my best”, added she.

Beatriz Haddad Maia is a Brazilian professional tennis player. On February 13, 2023, she reached a career-high in the WTA rankings in singles at No 12. Beatriz Haddad Maia has won two singles and five doubles titles on the WTA Tour, one singles and doubles title each on the WTA Challenger Tour, as well as 17 singles and nine doubles titles on the ITF Circuit.
