World cross-country champion Beatrice Chebet (Kenya) won the Gold Label’s Cross Internacional de Atapuerca, part of the World Athletics Cross Country Tour.
The Kenyan long-distance runner retained her title and took the 8km distance for 25:21 min, while Sarah Chelangat (Uganda) earned the silver with 25:36 min. The bronze went to another Kenyan runner, Edinah Jebitok, who finished for 25:44 min.
The leading quartet quickly went ahead and started building a distance. The key movement came about half a kilometer before the bell when Beatrice Chebet broke away from her opponents and built a sizeable advantage in just a few strides.
The weather conditions during the Gold Label’s Cross Internacional de Atapuerca were tought with gusts of wind of up to 45kph and rain.
The Top 5 of the competition were completed by Likina Amebaw (Ethiopia) with 26:06 min and Megan Keith (UK) with 26:39 min.
