Beatrice Chebet will attack 5,000m and 10,000m gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics

World 5,000m bronze medalist Beatrice Chebet will attack 5,000m and 10,000m gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Just a few days ago, the Kenyan athlete broke the world record in the 10,000m, becoming the first woman under 29 minutes in the event. She also defeated the current 10,000m world champion Gudaf Tsegay (Ethiopia).

Beatrice Chebet admitted she wants to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Vivian Cheruiyot, who won gold in the 5,000m and went on to silver in the 10,000m at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

“I came to run 10,000m to qualify for the Olympics and be in a great position for Paris because I want a double. I am happy because for the first time I am in an Olympic team and with good health and hard work I will win a medal again in Paris and it will be my favorite medal”, said Beatrice Chebet.

Beatrice Chebet is a Kenyan long-distance runner. In 2022, she won the silver medal in the 5,000m at the World Championships, and became Commonwealth, African and Diamond League champion. Chebet claimed the gold medal for the women’s senior race at the 2023 and 2024 World Cross Country Championships. She is also the current world record holder in the 10,000m, with a time of 28:54.14 min, set at the 2024 Prefontaine Classic on May 25.
