Barcelona Femeni started with a convincing victory their UEFA Women’s Champions League title defense

Barcelona Femeni started the defense of the UEFA Women’s Champions League title with a convincing success versus SL Benfica by 5-0 at the Estadi Johan Cruyff stadium in front of 4,536 fans. The hosts did not gave any chance to their opponents and headed the standings in Group A of the tournament after the first matches.

Alexia Putellas (15′ and 39′) and Aitana Bonmati (44′ and 52′) scored twice, each, Caroline Hansen made three assistances, and the final score was formed by Asisat Oshoala (62′), which brought the convincing success for the Catalonian team. Barcelona Femení had a total 20 goal attempts and made 8 shots on target, while their goalkeeper Catalina Coll needed to save only 2 shots.

Aitana Bonmati was awarded the MVP of the match, while Caroline Hansen also received a very high score. The lowest score for the match was given to the SL Benfica goalkeeper Lena Pauels after receiving five goals in her net.

In another match from the Group A, Rosengard lost to Eintracht Frankfurt Frauen by 1-2. Tanja Pawollek gave an advance for the German visitors in the 25th minute of the first half, while Barbara Dunst extended the lead to 0-2 in the 84th minute. Olivia Schough scored a goal for Rosengard in the stoppage time to form the final 1-2.

Olympique Lyonnais Feminin, the 2022 champion, smashed SK Slavia Prague Women by 9-0 as a visitor in a match from the Group B. Sara Dabritz gave an advance for the visitors in the 3rd minute, while Danielle van de Donk (14′), Vanessa Gilles (17′), Eugenie Le Sommer (21′), and Kadidiatou Diani (24′ and 45′), extended the lead to 6-0 at the end of the first half. By the end of the match, Ada Hegerberg (60′), Amel Majri (62′), and again Vanessa Gilles (80′) formed the final 0-9.

SKN St. Polten lost to Brann Kvinner by 1-2 in another match from Group B.
