Barbora Krejcikova is looking forward to the start of the 2022 season

The champion of the 2021 French Open Roland-Garros Barbora Krejcikova is looking forward to the start of the 2022 season and will face Romanian Jaqueline Adina Cristian (WTA No 73) in the second round of the WTA 500 Sydney International. The Czech, third-seeded in Sydney and the world’s No 4, won her first Grand Slam title in a single at the 2021 French Open Roland-Garros last June. She hopes to perform well in the new year as well.

Barbora Krejcikova’s success in singles last year came after establishing herself as one of the leading doubles players. She won the Wimbledon and French Open Roland-Garros titles in 2018, before winning the French Open Roland-Garros title last summer and the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with Katerina Siniakova.

“What happened last year is amazing”, said Barbora Krejcikova, who is also a three-time mixed doubles champion at the Australian Open. “I’m really happy and satisfied with the way I played and how successful I was. I mean, I was just trying to accept what happened during the off-season. Now I’m looking forward to playing in the new season and getting off to a good start. Here in Australia”, added she.

Barbora Krejcikova is a Czech professional tennis player. She has a career-high singles ranking of world No 3, achieved on November 1, 2021, and on October 22, 2018, she became world No 1 in doubles.

Barbora Krejcikova is a seven-time Grand Slam champion, having won the 2021 French Open singles title, the women’s doubles titles at the 2018 French Open, 2018 Wimbledon Championships, and 2021 French Open, all alongside compatriot Katerina Siniakova, and the mixed doubles titles at the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021 partnering Rajeev Ram, and in 2020 with Nikola Mektic. She is one of only four active female players to have won a Grand Slam title in all three different disciplines after Serena and Venus Williams, and Samantha Stosur. Katerina Siniakova has won three singles and nine doubles titles on the WTA Tour, including two at WTA 1000-level in doubles. With Katerina Siniakova, she finished runner-up at the 2018 WTA Finals and 2021 Australian Open, and the pair won Olympic gold in doubles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Barbora Krejcikova was also part of the Czech team which won the 2018 Fed Cup.
