Jacqueline Seifriedsberger is the second member of Austria’s ski jumping team to miss the Beijing 2022 Olympics due to a positive coronavirus test.
The team said that Jacqueline Seifriedsberger tested positive just before leaving for Beijing and is joining teammate Marita Kramer, who is a World Cup leader and a big gold medal favorite.
“Of course, this is the end of the world for Jacqueline. You’re ready to go, you feel healthy, but you’re not allowed to leave. I don’t want that to happen to anyone”, said Mario Stecher of the team.
The women’s competition is on Saturday, and the mixed teams will compete on Monday, with Jacqueline Seifriedsberger being replaced by Sophie Sorschag.
The 31-year-old Jacqueline Seifriedsberger won a bronze medal in the normal chance in 2013, as well as three silver medals at world championships with the women’s and mixed teams. She is tenth in the World Cup standings this season. She was selected to compete for Austria in the 2009 World Championship and 2011 World Championship in Oslo. She also won a gold medal on the normal hill at the 2008 FIS Junior World Championships in Zakopane. She won one World Cup event in Sapporo and four additional podiums in her career.
