Holly McNamara is an Australian soccer player who plays as a forward for Melbourne City FC in the A-League Women and the Australia women’s national soccer team. She is one of the biggest football talents in the country and was named the Young Footballer of the Year.
Holly McNamara was born on January 23, 2003 in New South Wales, Australia. She started in soccer already as a kid and played for FNSW Institute in New South Wales.
Holly McNamara signed with Melbourne City FC in 2021 and started her professional career during the 2021/22 season. She made her A-League Women debut for Melbourne City FC in a 1–0 win over Canberra United FC, starting the match and playing the full 90 minutes, along with scoring the game’s only goal. She continued playing for the team and was called for the Australian national team as well, making three appearances at the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
However, in February 2022, after 8 appearances for Melbourne City FC, scoring 4 goals and making 3 assists, Holly McNamara suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury in a match against Sydney FC, which ended early her debut season.
After overcoming a major knee injury, the young Australian soccer talent returned in form, and in the 2022/2023 season, she appeared in 6 matches, scoring 1 goal and making 3 assists.
In the 2023/2024 season, however, Holly McNamara is the titular forward for Melbourne City FC appearing in 5 matches and scoring 6 goals. She became one of the best forwards in the country and although not being called for the national team after her injury, she is definitely the future of the Australian national team.
