Australian qualifier Olivia Gadecki reached the final of the WTA 500 Guadalajara Open women’s tennis tournament with a prize pool of 922,573 USD.
The 22-year-old tennis player defeated Camila Osorio (Colombia) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3) in 79 minutes and for the first time in her career she will play in the final of a competition from WTA Tour.
Olivia Gadecki will face fifth-seeded Magdalena Frech (Poland) in the match for the trophy, who eliminated number 4 Caroline Garcia (France) after 2-0 (7:6, 7:5) in 2:06 hours.
This will be the first match between Olivia Gadecki and Magdalena Frech, and the winner will win her first WTA singles title and at the WTA 500 level.
The world’s No 152 Olivia Gadecki is the third-lowest ranked tennis player to reach the WTA final this year. Only No 228 Bianca Andreescu in Hertogenbosch and No 190 Ajla Tomljanovic in Birmingham were ranked lower, but neither has won those titles, so the Australian will be this year’s lowest-ranked champion if she triumphs late today.
