Athletics rising star Emmaculate Anyango Achol received a provisional ban for a doping violation

Kenyan track and field rising star Emmaculate Anyango Achol received a provisional ban for a doping violation. She tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO) and testosterone. Emmaculate Anyango Achol finished fourth at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade earlier this year.

On Friday, the AIU flagged Emmaculate Anyango Achol, who is the second fastest woman in 10km road races globally, for taking performance-enhancing Erythropoietin (EPO), and Testosterone. EPO is a hormone used by endurance athletes to boost red blood cell production to increase oxygen transport around the body, and to improve aerobic performance.

Testosterone helps to increase muscle mass in an athlete’s body.

The 23-year-old Kenyan cross country runner Emmaculate Anyango Achol also won the Cross Country Championships in Eldoret in February this year and finished second at the National Cross Country Championships in March.

Emmaculate Anyango Achol also clocked the second fastest 10km time in history after clocking 28:57 minin Valencia in January this year.
