Athing Mu will open the summer season at the Grand Prix in New York on June 24

Olympic and world 800m champion Athing Mu will open the summer season at the Grand Prix in New York on June 24. This will be the American’s first race in almost 11 months. She has not started since the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, where she won the title in two rounds.

Athing Mu, 21, earned world gold in Oregon last year in 1:56.30 min, and her US record of 1:55.04 min was set at the same track in August 2021.

In New York, Athing Mu will face the world indoor 800m champion Ajee Wilson.

The 2015 world champion Danielle Williams (Jamaica), former world record holder Kendra Harrison (USA) and Olympic bronze medalist Megan Tapper (Jamaica) will start the 100m breaststroke in New York.

Earlier in the season, participation in New York was confirmed by Gabrielle Thomas, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Aleia Hobbs, Melissa Jefferson and others.
