Ashleigh Barty, Belinda Bencic and Karolina Pliskova continue head at the US Open

The second round of the US Open women’s tennis championship offered almost no surprises. The world No 1 Ashleigh Barty of Australia easily defeated Clara Tauson with 2-0 (6:1, 7:5). The match between the two lasted exactly an hour and a half, and the favorite needed 5 breaks for the final success.

In the third round, Ashleigh Barty will face the American Shelby Rogers, who won by 2-0 (7:5, 6:2) versus the Romanian Sorana Cîrstea.

Tokyo Olympic champion Belinda Bencic also continued confidently in the next round. The Swiss tennis player defeated the Italian Martina Trevisan with 2-0 (6:3, 6:1).

The Czech Karolina Pliskova had a much harder time reaching the third round, beating the American Amanda Anisimova with 2-1 (7:5, 6:7, 7:6). The match between the two lasted 2 hours and 21 minutes, with only 3 breaks – 2 for the Czech and 1 for the American. In the third round, Karolina Pliskova will face the Croatian-born Australian professional tennis player Ajla Tomljanovic, who defeated Petra Martic with 2-0 (7:6, 6:4).

The 17th-seeded Greek player Maria Sakkari eliminated Czech Katerina Siniakova with 2-0 (6:4, 6:2).

In an all-Czech clash, veteran Petra Kvitova defeated Kristýna Pliskova with 2-0 (7:6, 6:2). Kvitova made twice as many winning shots as her opponent.

Canadian Bianca Andreescu also continues confidently after beating Lauren Davis with 2-0 (6:4, 6:4).

The Belgian Greetje Minnen also secured a place for the third round after beating with 2-0 (6:4, 6:4) the Russian Ludmilla Samsonova.

For the placed Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova it was not a problem to cope, albeit in three sets, with the Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova – 6:2, 5:7, 6:2. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will face in the third round with her compatriot Varvara Gracheva, who eliminated the 24th-seeded Spaniard Paula Badosa with 2-0 (6:4, 6:4).

The 7th-seeded Croatian Iga Sviatek defeated France’s Fiona Ferro with 2-1 (3:6, 7:6, 6:0).

Anett Kontaveit of Estonia won with 2-0 (6:4, 6:1) in just over an hour over Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann.

The American player Jessica Pegula also found a place in the third round after quickly defeating the Japanese Misaki Doi with 2-0 (6:3, 6:2).
