The 2nd-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) took a straight-set victory over Petra Martic (Croatia) to qualify for the third round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open. The Belarusian tennis player prevailed by 2-0 (6:3, 7:6) in a match that lasted almost two hours.
Aryna Sabalenka took only one break in the first set and saved two breakpoints, but this proved to be enough for her to close it at 6:3. However, the big dramma came in the second set, when Petra Martic made an early break and took a lead of 3:0. The Belarusian player returned the break in the 7th game, but her opponent again broke to keep the lead of 5:3. However, in the next game, Aryna Sabalenka registered another break, this time on zero, and after winning her next serve equalized to 5:5. The set entered into a tiebreak, which the Belarusian player won by 7:5 in the second match point.
In the third round, Aryna Sabalenka will face Liudmila Samsonova (Russia).
In the other matches from the day, Leylah Fernandez (Canada) eliminated the 11th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil) by 2-1 (7:, 5:7, 6:3), while Danielle Collins (USA) eliminated the 8th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:2).
Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) and Camila Giorgi (Italy) made fantastic last match for the day with Czech player winning it by 2-1 (6:2, 5:7, 6:0).
