Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) smashed the Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng (China) by 2-0 (6:1 6:2) in a US Open quarter-final match that lasted only 74 minutes..
In the next phase of the competition, the Belarusian tennis player will face the representative of the hosts, Emma Navarro, who defeated the Spanish player Paula Badosa by 2-0 (6:2 7:5). At the moment, the meeting between the two is scheduled for September 6th (Friday).
Aryna Sabalenka dominated throughout the match and did not leave any chances to her opponent. She won the first set in just 36 minutes, starting it with three straight games. Then the Olympic champion reminded of herself and won the next game “on zero”, but it turned out to be a short-term flash that did not lead to a turn of events. On the contrary – the Belarusian showed even more serious supremacy and made a break, which was followed by another game, and accordingly the set was closed with a crushing 6:1.
The situation in the second set did not change and Aryna Sabalenka started with a break. The Chinese player again won her serve, giving the impression that there was some hope, but Aryna Sabalenka recorded another three games in a row, with which things now looked more than clear. Qinwen Zheng fought back a game to make her loss a point more honorable, and then Aryna Sabalenka served to finish the job and deservedly reach the last four of the US tournament.
