The 2nd-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati after defeating the 14th-seeded Daria Kasatkina (Russia) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) in a match that lasted 1:39 hours.
The Belarusian tennis player was more concentrated during the match and after exchange of breaks, succeeded to achieve one more in the first set, which brought her the victory by 6:3. In the second set, both exchanged breaks in the beginning of the set and continue equally, but in the 7th game, Aryna Sabalenka broke her opponent again and won the next two games in row to close the set again on 6:3.
Thus, in the quarter-finals, she will face the 5th-seeded Ons Jabeur (Tunisia), who qualified for this stage after retiring of Donna Vekic (Croatia) in the first set.
The top-seeded Iga Swiatek (Poland) also qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open after turnover against Qinwen Zheng (China). The Polish tennis played won by 2-1 (3:6, 6:1, 6:1) and in the next round will face the 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic).
Jasmine Paolini (Italy) also advanced to the quarter-finals after retiring of Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) in the second set. In the next round the Italian player will face the 7th-seeded Cori Coco Gauff (USA), who eliminated Linda Noskova (Czech republic) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:0).
Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) brough one of the biggest surprises during the day, eliminating the 3rd-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA) after 2-0 (6:4, 6:0) and in the quarter-finals in Cincinnati will face Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic).
