Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) is the new WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open champion. The Belarusian tennis player was able to cope with Jessica Pegula (USA) in two sets – 2-0 (6:3, 7:5), in a match that lasted a little over an hour.
Aryna Sabalenka made a decisive break in the first set, which came in the 4th game. The Belarusian then took a 3:1 lead and held on until the end to take the set 6:3.
The second set was more dramatic. The Belarusian tennis player again took the initiative with an early break in the first game, but when she had to serve for the match at 5:4 in her favor, she let the break return for 5:5. However, Jessica Pegula‘s joy was short-lived and on her next serve she broke and allowed another break for 6:5, and on her second attempt to close the match, Aryna Sabalenka this time made no mistake and won her serve to form the final 7:5 in its benefit.
Thus, the 26-year-old Belarusian tennis player recorded her second title of the season and 15th overall in her career. She already has six Masters WTA 1000 titles, and with this success she is guaranteed the No 2 position in the world rankings, which means she will also be second-seeded at the US Open.
