Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) is the first finalist at the US Open 2024. The Belarusian tennis player defeated Emma Navarro (USA) by 2-0 (6:3, 7:6). The world’s number two was quite convincing in the match and won it in just over an hour and a half.
The first set offered a lot of emotions. Right at the beginning, the two tennis players exchanged one break each, but neither was able to take an advantage. The sixth game proved to be key, in which Aryna Sabalenka broke for the second time and then won her serve to lead by 5:2. Until the end, it remained for her to take her service game once more to close the set with 6:3.
The second set started equally, but in the fifth game, Aryna Sabalenka struck a crucial blow, winning her opponent’s serve to take a 3:2 lead. So she must had a complete control, serving for the match at 5:4. Surprisingly, however, the Belarusian tennis player cracked at the most important moment and allowed a return of the break for 5:5, and then the set reached a tiebreak at 6:6.
In the tiebreak, Aryna Sabalenka did not start well, losing the first two points, one after a double fault. However, she rallied and then won the next 7 points in a row to win the tiebreak 7-2, the set and the match.
Thus, Aryna Sabalenka reached her second consecutive US Open final, and this time she will hope for a better outcome in the battle for the trophy after last year’s loss by 1-2 (6:2, 3:6, 2:6) to Cori Coco Gauff. This is also her fourth Grand Slam final, and she will have a chance to win a second major title of the year after her triumph at the Australian Open.
