Aryna Sabalenka is back on the top of the WTA Rankings

Aryna Sabalenka WTA number one

Aryna Sabalenka is back on the top of the WTA Rankings. The Belarusian tennis player overcame Iga Swiatek by 41 points in the ranking as from October 21, 2024.

Aryna Sabalenka is determined to hold on to her top spot in the women’s tennis world rankings for as long as possible ahead of next month’s WTA finals in Saudi Arabia. The Belarusian tennis player won two Grand Slam titles in 2024, and added to them the trophies of the WTA 1000 tournaments in Cincinnati and Wuhan.

Women’s tennis players are required to play at least six WTA 500 tournaments during the year, but Iga Swiatek missed the Asian tour due to fatigue. Thus, the Polish tennis player was left with only two competitions for the season and the penalty left her behind Aryna Sabalenka in the ranking.

The Belarusian topped the rankings for eight weeks last year, but Iga Swiatek replaced her on the top at the WTA Finals. Aryna Sabalenka hopes to stay at the top of the rankings for longer this time.

“Number 1… Let’s see how long I stay in this place this time”, wrote she at the social media.

Aryna Sabalenka has 9,705 points ahead of Iga Swiatek with 9,665 points before the WTA Finals, which offers 1,500 points. The hard court competition in Riyadh runs from November 2 to 9 and will feature the top eight female singles players.
